SpaceX successfully fired a single Raptor engines on its Flight 3 Starship ahead of an upcoming test flight. The company also completed static fire of the Flight 3 Super Heavy Booster, where all of its 33 Raptor engines were fired.
One interesting fact is that SpaceX’s Raptor is just the third rocket engine in history to be designed to use a full-flow staged-combustion-cycle, and the first of its kind to actually power a vehicle. However, the engine’s use of liquid methane/oxygen fuel is actually being used by many different companies such as Blue Origin’s BE-4 and Space Epoch’s Longyun-70. The Raptor engine can achieve a vacuum specific impulse of 3,750 m/s with a thrust of 670,000 lb-ft and boasts a chamber pressure of 300 bar.
