It’s official, the SpaceX Starship Super Heavy’s Booster 9 has successfully completed a static fire test of its 33 Raptor engines, paving way for the Haven-1 commercial space station launch. There were a few hiccups such as not running for the full 5-second duration, but rather 2.74-seconds, and four of the main engines also shut down prematurely.
What’s next? The next flight test will test Booster 9 and an upper-state prototype named Ship 25, although we don’t have an exact date yet. For those unfamiliar with Starship, it’s a super heavy-lift launch vehicle consisting of the first-stage Super Heavy booster and the second-stage spacecraft also named Starship. Both are fully reusable and powered by Raptor rocket engines, which burn liquid methane as well as liquid oxygen.
