StuffMadeHere Handwriting Robot Human
Inventor Shane Wighton of StuffMadeHere wanted to see if he could use an iDrawHome 2.0 robot to write using a pen just like a real human would, or at least to the point where an expert would not be able to tell the difference. A Tormach ZA6 robot arm was needed to feed the cards into the machine, otherwise the process would be just too laborious.

The robot arm grabbed cards from a spring-loaded contraption before placing them on the machine’s custom hollow plate, complete with vacuum suction to keep them in place. Even more important than just the hardware was the software side of things, since it processes the handwriting. For believable handwriting, the program had to predict the shape of the next letter.
