SurgiBox SurgiField Backpack Operating Room
SurgiBox’s SurgiField system, co-developed with MIT D-Lab researchers, can transform from backpack to a completely sterile mobile operating room in just 90-seconds. The system consists of a bubble with armholes facing inward, an airflow module that includes filtration, and a battery.

During the setup process, a SteriBubble goes over the patient’s body and then the bottom edges are sealed to protect their skin. A Smart Control Module (SCM) is attached to the collapsible frame to mantain airflow inside the SteriBubble, purified by a HEPA filter. Two inward-facing armholes allow the surgeon to safely reach into the bubble while still being able to see the patient clearly. The SteriBubble is discarded after use and the SCM as well as the battery can be packed up for reuse.

This latest mission was far from a simple delivery. Safe surgery means skilled teams having the right tools in the right setting to do what is necessary for patients. While SurgiBox’s operations and reach are global now, it all started thanks to the support of Boston/Cambridge’s vibrant innovation ecosystem,” said Dr. Mike Teodorescu, SurgiBox Inc. CEO and Co-Founder.
