Fan games like The Legend of Zelda: The Sealed Palace have become a reality, so we expect Luke’s Awakening by Shoehead Art to eventually be released. This crossover combines the Game Boy classic Zelda: Link’s Awakening with elements from Stars Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
Most gamers probably don’t remember Zelda’s Adventure on the Philips CD-i console system, as it is a top-down game that follows a non-traditional storyline, in which link has been captured by Ganon and Zelda has to collect the seven celestial signs in order to rescue him. John Lay has developed a complete port of this title for the Game Boy, but with a few modifications.
Gamer Nick Lever has created a 1:1 scale LEGO Game Boy, complete with a brick cartridge slot, pressable D-pad and more. It consists of 354 parts and just 115 unique parts, while any elements that are not outward facing can be substituted for the same part in a different color. There are four free games built in two different ways including Pokemon Red, Tetris and Zelda.
If you grew up in the late 1980s, Nintendo’s Demovision Game Boy Kiosk may look familiar, as nearly every electronics store had one. You might be wondering how it works, and the short answer is that the kiosk used WideBoy, or a peripheral that allowed developers to test handheld games on a CRT screen.
Nintendo Switch Online members rejoice! Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games have arrived, complete with offline support. Unlike the original versions, players will be able to create suspend points for each game to save their progress without any modifications or codes. Certain titles, such as Tetris and Game & Watch Gallery 3, boast online and local wireless multiplayer.

Programmer Nilius Julius wanted to do something really special for his friend’s wedding, and what better way to do so than a custom Nintendo Game Boy cartridge? This isn’t a simple rebranding of an existing game, but rather a custom program that was written in C using GBDK-2020. As for the box, it was designed in Photoshop before being printed on a sheet of A3 photo paper and cutting the main image out.
There’s the DMG-0B prototype, and then Gem Boy Zero, a miniature 3D-printed Nintendo Game Boy-inspired console. Aside from the 3D-printed shell, it features a 1.44-inch display with a laser-cut acrylic cover, a micro-USB port for charging, and a Raspberry Pi Zero W at the heart of the tiny handheld.
Sure, there are plenty of Nintendo Game Boy emulators out there, but GB Interceptor lets you stream gameplay directly from an unmodified console to a computer over USB. This capture cartridge slots between the Game Boy and cartridge, as it connects to the console’s memory bus, utilizing a Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller to emulate the game you’re playing.
