GoSun is no stranger to solar cookers, but this year, they’ve unveiled a new model, called Fusion, which integrates an electric heating element. It keeps the familiar cylindrical cooking chamber that draws heat from two parabolic reflectors which capture heat from the sun and adds a 150-watt electric heater. Fusion can be powered either using a car’s cigarette port, a lithium ion power bank or a solar panel charger for the battery pack. Read more for another video, additional pictures and information.
SolarStratos, a manned two-person aerial vehicle, may not be able to circumnavigate the globe on a single charge, but it is a 100% solar-powered aircraft. It currently holds the record for being the first solar-powered airplane to reach a height of 25,000 meters, with power stored on an Austrian-made 20 kWh battery, while the solar panels are sourced from California-based SunPower. Grant Thompson, also known as “King of Random” on YouTube, created a 2000° F solar scorcher years back, and just recently, he decided to see what would happen if he used his homemade contraption on a block of dry ice. Just for reference, this solar cooker can easily melt pennies, lead, and even a plate of steel.
