Taipei 101 sits 600-feet feet from a major fault line in Taiwan, so that’s why engineers decided to add a giant mass damper to keep things in balance. Video after the break. Click here for first picture in gallery.
Too heavy to be lifted by crane, the damper was assembled on site and hangs through 4 floors of the skyscraper. It can reduce the building’s movement by up to 40%.
