TECNO has revealed a concept phone that gives us a glimpse into the future of smartphones. The Phantom Ultimate G Fold is a tri-fold device that is the thinnest of its kind, at 11.49mm folded and 3.49mm when fully unfolded. Not available for purchase yet, TECNO calls it a concept and will be showcasing it at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona.
Foldable phones are not new, but tri-folds—devices with two folds creating three panels—are rare. Unlike Huawei’s Mate XT which folds in a Z-shape with an exposed screen, TECNO’s G-shaped design folds both hinges inward, fully protecting the 9.94-inch main display from scratches and debris. A separate cover screen on the outside keeps the phone usable when closed, just like a classic book-style foldable.

The Phantom Ultimate G Fold stands out by tackling the bulkiness of foldables. It’s only slightly thicker than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 when folded and much slimmer than Huawei’s Mate XT. The secret lies in a dual-hinge system: a compact waterdrop hinge for the right panel and a larger primary hinge for the rest. Made from 2000 MPa ultra-high-strength steel, these hinges ensure a gapless, secure fold. The 0.3mm Titan Fiber back cover keeps it light yet tough.

Unfold the Phantom Ultimate G Fold and you get a 9.94-inch display with minimal creasing—a common foldable flaw. The screen lies flat when fully open, giving you a tablet-like experience for watching videos or multitasking. The hinges also allow multi-angle hovering, so you can prop the phone at various angles for hands-free use, like streaming a show or taking a video call.
Even as a concept, TECNO has packed in premium features. It has a high-performance chipset, but details are mum. A triple-camera system on the middle panel doubles as the rear camera when folded, offering versatility. The battery is over 5,000mAh, impressive for a device this slim, hinting at all-day power for heavy use.
There’s a catch: this is just a concept, not a product you can buy. TECNO hasn’t confirmed plans to sell the Phantom Ultimate G Fold and if they do, the price could be over $3,000, same as high-end foldables like Huawei Mate XT.
