TinyTendo Smallest Handheld NES Console
Modder Redherring23 is familiar with all of the handheld consoles that run emulators, but none use official Nintendo hardware. So, he created TinyTendo, which is unofficially the world’s smallest NES console made with actual Nintendo hardware. It uses real NES chips that have been physically cut and ground down to fit in a smaller chassis.

Despite using real Nintendo hardware, the original cartridges simply cannot fit in the TinyTendo, but Redherring32 came up with a workaround by creating custom mini cartridges. However, a separate adapter allows you to use the original cartridges. It uses USB-C for charging and has a switch that can be set to either 5V or 3V3 for power saving. An analog brightness control ensures the best picture regardless of the lighting situation. Best of all, the project will be open sourced in a few weeks.

The cut chips are less than 7% of their original size by volume and area, and fit on a PCB smaller than a Raspberry Pi 3. The cutting process is done entirely by hand. I actually messed around one day to see how small a NES motherboard could actually get, and was able to design one the same size as a Pi Zero,” said Redherring32.
