Top Gear has been known for some crazy challenges in the past, and their latest stunt in no exception. They wanted to see if a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is faster than a NASA Space Shuttle down a runway. Ollie Kew was ready to take on the 15,000 foot runway at Kennedy Space Center’s Shuttle Landing Facility to find out.
The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is powered by a quad-turbocharged 8.0L W16 engine generating 1,580 hp and 1,180 lb-ft of torque, mated to a 7-speed automatic dual-clutch gearbox, enabling it to hit 60 mph in less than 2.4-seconds, while topping out at 273 mph. For comparison, NASA’s Space Shuttle travels at approximately 246 mph during main landing gear touchdown and 212.5 mph after the drag chute is deployed. On paper, the Chiron Super Sport appears to be the clear winner, but there are more factors at play than you think.
