You may have seen or heard about TrackingPoint’s $20,000 XS1 Smart Rifle in the past, but recently new videos demonstrating just how accurate it is have surfaced, including one decimating an HTC M8 smartphone. What makes it a “smart rifle” is its Linux-powered scope that transmits image data to a display, similar to one you’d see sitting in a fighter jet cockpit, that shows the weapon’s compass orientation, cant, as well as the incline. How does it work? Well, you first have to “mark” the target using a button near the trigger, thereby illuminating it with the tracking scope’s built-in laser, and once that’s complete, the scope analyzes the data before reorienting the display so the crosshairs show where the round will go.
