Transformers fans know Soundwave as a Decepticon robot disguised as a micro cassette recorder, and some may even have at least one of his early 1980s toys, but what if I told you that it’s now possible to create a 3D-printed version at home?
That’s right, Nectar Mechanics shows us just how he managed to do this, and it’s an engineering marvel to say the least, or so we’d like to think. First, he had to design the parts in FreeCAD, and the transforming parts of the model definitely took the most time to get right. Why? All of the buttons and electronics had to be carefully placed to ensure they didn’t interfere with the boombox to robot transformation.
- Automatic Conversion: Transforms effortlessly between truck and robot modes via voice command or mobile app.
- Programmable: Use the dedicated app to create and customize various movements and poses, enhancing your interactive experience.
- Interactive Features: Equipped with multiple sensors and voice commands, providing an engaging and immersive experience.

This actually shows you can disguise a robot into a radio and back using all those internal compartments to fold into. I haven’t seen anything this complex and fully functional until this video showing the possibilities. You could use this design for nasa or space x to fold up machines for transportation to Mars or the moon,” said one commenter.

It’s cool, but unfortunately Blaster was the Boombox, Soundwave was a Walkman
