Japan-based Tsubame Industries has opened pre-orders for its $3,000,000 USD ARCHAX robot. Standing 14.8-feet tall and weighing in at a hefty 3.5 tons, this robot, named after the avian dinosaur archaeopteryx, has a functional windowless cockpit with monitors that receive images from nine cameras mounted on the exterior.
ARCHAX will debut at the Japan Mobility Show later this month and showcase its two modes: an upright ‘robot mode’ and a ‘vehicle mode’ that enables the pilot to drive it at up to 6 mph. A pilot controls the robot using a pair of joysticks and foot pedals. More information here.

Japan is very good at animation, games, robots and automobiles so I thought it would be great if I could create a product that compressed all these elements into one. I wanted to create something that says, ‘This is Japan’. I hope to learn from previous generations and carry on the tradition,” said Ryo Yoshida, CEO of Tsubame Industries.
