There are electric motorcycles like the Zero SR-X, and then Project Force of Nature, the world’s fastest steam-powered motorcycle. Owners Graham and Diane Sykes managed to achieve 3.878 seconds in the standing 1/8 mile with a recorded exit speed of 163.8 mph during Elvington Speed Week.
As the steam is released through specialist valves at a velocity greater than the speed of sound, a sonic boom propels the Force of Nature at 3.5G, followed by a long trail of steam. The bike uses 25 liters of water per second to generate thrust. Graham says they have unlocked around 50% into the power ability of the bike, and the team is slowly increasing the performance so he can get acclimatized to the acceleration.

The flame generates around about 800 degrees centigrade of hot gas… it’s not a quick process so you don’t thermally shock anything. We take about four hours to heat it up to 250° C, which brings the internal pressure of the vessel up to 40 bar, which is 600 PSI, and at that point you’ve got lots of potential energy in the temperature of the water,” said Sykes.
