We are just one week away from its official store launch, but people are already complaining about the iPhone 5's design, stating that it looks just too similar to its predecessor, the iPhone 4S. We've rounded up seven alternative designs that Apple could have used, instead of just a slimmer and taller iPhone 4. Continue reading to see them all.

10. Rectangle iPhone 5

...features a tiny round touchscreen for a Home button. This function is used particularly for notifications, with phone, messages, email and more being shown in that area. Swiping up from the Home button will launch the associated application and this touch area will show the weather or time while in sleep mode. It could also show the Apple logo lighting up when the handset starts, just like some people had the Apple logo on the back of the iPhone glowing at startup through customization. with some extra messing around, you could also implement sort of viewfinder function for this secondary touchscreen, to work with the camera.

9. The iPhone 5

We have a new iPhone 5 concept straight after the iPhone 4S launch. Created by Antonio de Rosa, this model comes with a capacitive home button, aluminum unibody case, a 4.3 inch screen and a dual core Apple A6 processor. The elongated capacitive Home button is something that people have been talking about for a while now, so it would be a pity not to capitalize on that innovation.

8. iPhone SJ

The iPhone SJ packs a capacitive touchscreen made completely of glass and a polycarbonate body for a shell. The result is a very light phone, that features an Apple A6 dual core processor and a 10 megapixel camera. Using polycarbonate for the chassis worked fine for Nokia with the N9, so why not adopt this idea for the newest iPhone as well? As you can see here we're dealing with an edge to edge screen that looks larger than 3.5 inches, so we may be dealing with that 4+ inch Retina Display we've all been craving for.

7. the new iPhone

The New iPhone can get the data directly through the mobile network and supports 4G LTE without requiring a SIM card. This device uses a new audio section, with two panel speakers, as shown by the pics here. There's also an aluminum unibody design in the mix and the controls are now placed on the top and the edge...and boy is this a thin smartphone or what? The handset comes with 3 Retina Displays, or better said 3 strips of screens, with one at the top showing all the info and notifications, one at the bottom for the App dock, multitasking and others and the main one, the central piece that serves as desktop space.

6. iPhone 5 LM

The device uses a 4.5 inch widescreen display, a 10 megapixel camera and a virtual Home Button. There's also an embedded SIM card and obviously the Liquidmetal case, that measures only 7.9 mm in thickness. When turned around in landscape mode, the phone's virtual Home button is gone to make more room for video watching/gaming. I have to say that the format of this iPhone concept is very appealing, especially with the device having metallic edges and a shiny back that's probably protected by either ceramics or liquidmetal as well.

5. iPhone Next-Gen

The mockup measures 125 x 63 mm (length, width), and I suppose that 1080p resolution or something adequate for Retina standard is supported here. There's also that pair of bigger speakers and smaller 19 pin dock connector at the bottom. The sides of the phone are all metal and the back looks like it's covered with a glass surface...this [is] a quad core iPhone, with a 10 megapixel camera, iOS 6.0.

4. iPhone Pro

The handset comes with a 4.5 inch 1280 x 800 pixel display, a 1.2 megapixel 3D camera and a body that measures 9.6mm in thickness. The iPhone Pro uses a a wide LCD with 2 side buttons and the 3D camera cam hook up to a DSLR lens for the best of result. Projector capability and a portable speaker, plusa removable hard disk are all features compatible with this model. For all that DSLR processing I guess that a quad core Apple A6 processor is required and also a very sturdy body, to keep that photo taking accessory in place.

3. iPhone 5 Fuse

This iPhone 5 measures 7mm in thickness and has a 10 megapixel iSight camera at the back, plus a 5MP one at the front. The interesting aspect here is the inclusion of quad speakers for stereo in landscape and portrait. The headphone jack was also placed in a central position. I like the metallic edges of this model, but I'm not such a big fan of the volume buttons, that look like those on a toy phone, to be honest. The way the metal area around the device is slightly sloped makes it look like a precious item, a very nice feat.

2. iPhone Plus

The iPhone Plus uses a Liquidmetal body (thermoformed on a single plane, without junctions) and the screen has a double alkali-aluminosilicate sheet glass. We're dealing here with a device that has a 4.3 inch Retina Display, the Apple A6 quad core processor, a 10 megapixel rear camera with f/2.4, 1080p video capture at 30 fps and a 2 megapixel front camera. There's even a top pico projector, used to beam photos and videos to surfaces. As you can see, we have here an edge to edge display and there's also a slim dock connector in here.

1. Teardrop iPhone 5

As you remember older iMacs were big on curves and the first iPhones were also pretty curved. With the iPhone 4 came a more rectangular approach, those nifty round buttons and no trace of curves. Now, Federico wants a curved back iPhone and most likely a curved display as well. I suppose this is a quad core iPhone, since that's what the rumors are saying. Also, the camera is probably the same 8.0-megapixel affair, thatís evolved enough to be kept that way for a year or two, maybe with a 3D option thrown in for fun.
