Located in Maastricht, Holland, this beautiful 13th century church was transformed into a modern library by Merkx + Girod. To be more specific, “the massive 1,200 square meter church was built all the way back in 1294, and although it has been updated for modern day use it still maintains many of the original characteristics and design elements.” Continue reading for more pictures and information.

Church conversions have crossed our desks in the past, but nothing quite extravagant as this old cathedral that has been converted into a modern book store. Due to the enormous height of the structure, the design team decided that building multi story bookshelves vertically was the best utilization of space.
