It’s that time again, time for some more weird facts that you probably didn’t know about. We start off with bioluminescent trees, which might replace street lights one day. Daan Roosegaarde is working with scientists at the State University of New York, and a company called Bioglow, to create these glowing trees. They would essentially be made up of a large number of genetically-modified glowing plants to save electricity for street lighting. Bigolow’s Alexander Krichevsky has already created the plants by splicing genes from bacteria with the chloroplast genome from a common pot plant to create ‘Starlight Avatar’.
