5. Golden Nugget Shark Tank
The expanded resort is built around two aquariums. The largest faces the swimming pool, and incorporates a slide through the tank containing full grown sharks. The smaller aquarium is in the lobby of the Rush Tower. A total of five specialty restaurants were added: Vic and Anthony’s steakhouse, The Grotto Italian food, Lillie’s Asian Cuisine, Red Sushi, and the Chart House Seafood Restaurant. The Chart House has a view of one of the aquariums.
4. Deep Sea World
One of the main attractions is the 112 meter long transparent acrylic underwater viewing tunnel, which is one of the longest of its kind in the world. The tank with the tunnel contains 1,000,000 imperial gallons (4,500,000 l; 1,200,000 US gal) of sea water pumped in from the River Forth. This water is generally around 14 °C (57 °F), but varies with the season. Because of the low temperature most animals within the tunnel are from around Britain. Sand tiger sharks are generally found in warmer water, for example Florida and South Africa. They easily adapt to the change in temperature, but the lower temperature reduces the rate of metabolism.
3. AquaDom
The outside cylinder was manufactured on-site from four pieces; the inside cylinder for the elevator was delivered in one piece. The Aquadom is the largest acrylic cylindrical aquarium in the world, with a diameter of about 11 metres, built on a 9 metres tall foundation. Filled with 1,000,000 litres of water, it contains over 1,500 fish of 50 species. The feeding of the fish and the cleaning of the fish tank is performed daily by 3-4 divers. The fish need 8 kg fish food.
2. Georgia Aquarium
Atlanta is home to the largest aquarium in the world – containing more than 61 miles of pipes and wires to assist with all of the tanks. There are plenty of innovative exhibits including the Ocean Voyager, which contains 1.8 million pounds of sea salt in order to replicate actual seawater.
1. Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium
The walk-through aquarium displays marine life in several habitats comprising 27 tanks in 16 main exhibits with a total volume of 10,941 tons of water. The habitats are from the Ring of Fire area of the Pacific Ocean. The largest tank is 9 metres (30 ft) deep and holds 5,400 cubic metres (190,699 cu ft) of water and a variety of fish including manta rays and a whale shark. The tanks used in the aquarium are made of 314 tonnes (346 tons) of acrylic glass. The largest single pane measures six meters by five meters by thirty centimeters and weighs roughly 10 tons.
