Skyentific, a robotics enthusiast from Switzerland, has built a cupcake machine that not make the best looking treats, but they are completely edible. Think of this as a 3D printer, but with cooking-related parts, as it consists of a series of stepper motors that move a carriage transporting a regulation-sized patty pan. A modified electric caulking gun then fills the pan with dough from a tube.
This carriage is then used to transport the dough to a small custom fabricated microwave chamber, where it cooks for about a minute before being removed. Next, the topping is applied with two caulking guns. An Arduino computer is the brains behind the operation, which handles most of the process with stepper drivers, limit switches, and multiple relays.
