Rheinmetall’s Boxer Cobra may look strange, and for good reason. This modular armored vehicle allows military forces to quickly deploy and recover a modular bridge. At the push of a button, it launches the detachable Cobra bridge directly in front of the vehicle.
The Cobra system can be installed on other medium-weight wheeled and tracked armored vehicles as necessary, while the bridge itself can easily be modified depending on the mission. Pearson Engineering’s Bridge Launching Mechanism can be quickly deployed on several multipurpose vehicle platforms and is classified as an attachment. To safely control the launch and recovery, hydraulic cylinders are used as well as stabilizing clamps. During the entire process, the Bridgelayer’s foot remains firmly planted to the ground, thus reducing the load transfer onto the vehicle to ensure a stable platform.
