Rockstar Unexpectedly Drops Second GTA 6 Trailer, Solidifies Setting as Leonida

Sure, Rockstar pushing GTA 6’s release to May 26, 2026, has disappointed lots of fans, but today’s surprise second trailer has gotten everyone excited again. Unlike the first trailer, which showed the setting and main characters, this one dives deeper into the story, showing more characters, places, and gameplay bits.

It’s captured on a PlayStation 5, confirming console footage, and has a lively soundtrack with songs like the Pointer Sisters’ “Hot Together,” Wang Chung’s “Everybody Have Fun Tonight,” and others. The trailer reveals the main characters’ full names: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Lucia just got out of Leonida Penitentiary after serving time for “protecting her family,” while Jason is a former soldier working for drug smugglers in the Keys. Their story starts with Jason picking Lucia up from prison, setting up a Bonnie-and-Clyde-style crime adventure.

The story hints at a heist that goes bad, pulling the couple into a big plot. This points to a tale driven by personal goals and outside pressures, with themes of loyalty, betrayal, and ambition. Rockstar’s website says they want to “forge a new life together,” but their wild activities—armed robberies, yacht parties, and jetski chases—suggest a crazy journey.


We also see more of Leonida, Rockstar’s made-up version of Florida, with Vice City (a Miami-like big city) at its heart. It has bright neon beachfronts, art deco buildings, and modern touches like social media and influencers, making it different from the 1980s Vice City in older games. Beyond Vice City, the trailer shows the Grassrivers swampland (like the Everglades), hinting at varied places like wetlands, countryside, and coastal Keys.


The trailer introduces a fun supporting cast, including Raul Bautista, a bank robber likely key to heists, Brian Heder, an old drug smuggler running a boatyard, Cal Hampton, Jason’s friend and a paranoid hermit obsessed with Coast Guard radio, and Real Dimez, a rap duo with a big social media presence. There’s also a hint of Phil Cassidy, a fan-favorite from older 3D-era games, showing Rockstar’s adding familiar characters for nostalgia.
