Xiaomi turned heads in Beijing last night, unveiling the YU7 electric SUV. This Tesla Model Y rival blends lightning-fast performance, solid range, and a tech-loaded cabin that screams ambition, ready to shake up the SUV game. Sporting a sharp, sporty look inspired by the SU7 sedan, the YU7 is ready to rattle the mid-to-large SUV scene.
Stretching 196.8 inches long, 78.6 inches wide, and 63.3 inches tall with a 118-inch wheelbase, the YU7 towers over the Tesla Model Y, delivering generous space. Its CTB battery setup boosts interior room, providing 3.9 inches of front headroom, 3 inches in the rear, and 2.9 inches of rear legroom. With nine color options, including a vibrant Emerald Green, its sleek “riding the wind” aesthetic nails both style and efficiency. “The YU7 is positioned as a luxury performance SUV that shares the same family design language as the SU7 electric sedan,” said Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, underscoring its premium appeal.

The performance is straight-up thrilling. The Standard RWD model, with a single rear motor, cranks out 315 horsepower, zipping to 62 mph in 5.88 seconds. Step up to the Pro AWD or Max AWD trims, rocking dual HyperEngine V6s Plus motors on an 800V setup, and the Max delivers a wild 681 horsepower, blasting to 62 mph in just 3.23 seconds with a top speed of 157 mph. The YU7 Max is as fast as the 2026 Model Y Performance would be, accelerating from 0-60 mph in just 3.2 seconds.
Range sets the YU7 apart. Its 96.3 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery (101.7 kWh NCM for the Max) delivers 518 miles for the Standard RWD, 478 miles for the Pro AWD, and 472 miles for the Max AWD on the CLTC cycle, outpacing the Model Y’s 447-mile Long Range AWD. The 800V system adds 385 miles in 15 minutes. “The YU7 offers longer range on a charge than the Tesla Model Y, with the Standard RWD model clocking in the impressive 518 miles,” Lei Jun boasted.

The cabin is a tech haven. A panoramic HyperVision head-up display and three miniLED screens create a futuristic interface, while an NVIDIA Thor chip with 700 TOPS powers advanced driver aids, including 4D radar. “Xiaomi has unveiled Xiaomi HyperVision, which it says is a more intuitive visual interaction system,” reports CnEVPost, emphasizing the SUV’s cutting-edge tech. A three-spoke steering wheel and active air suspension, absent in the Model Y, enhance comfort and sportiness.

Pricing remains undisclosed until July 2025, but estimates suggest a $35,000 starting point, undercutting the Model Y’s $36,400 in China. According to Lei Jun, the model offers 50,000 to 60,000 yuan ($7,000 to $8,300) more value than the Tesla’s Model Y. Despite the SU7’s rocky past, including a fatal crash, Xiaomi’s 258,000-unit delivery record signals staying power. “The YU7 has an irreplaceable and unique appeal,” Lei Jun declared, positioning it against Tesla, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz in China’s EV arena.
