Rust Console Edition’s latest trailer previews a big leap forward for the survival genre on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This isn’t just a basic port of Facepunch Studios’ 2013 PC hit, but rather a reimagined beast that has been remastered for next-gen hardware.
Double Eleven, known for tackling ports like Minecraft Dungeons and Red Dead Redemption for Switch, has crafted a trailer that screams next-gen potential. Players spawn on a ravaged island, surrounded by rusted relics, with survival depending on scavenging wood, stone, as well as food.

“A game without rules, Rust doesn’t tell its inhabitants what to do. Players are free to be deceptive and aggressive with intense player vs. player combat, raiding and looting, but there is potentially even more to be earned with a team of friendly players by your side,” Double Eleven emphasized in their press release.

Performance woes from the 2021 console launch—where load times hit 45 minutes on PS4 and Xbox One—have been a focus for Double Eleven. They slashed those delays to about a minute with a new bootstrap system, and the next-gen version pushes further. Harnessing PS5 and Xbox Series X|S hardware, it promises near-instant loads, reduced lag, and the possibility of new features like land vehicles, minicopters, and larger maps—previously out of reach on last-gen systems. “We’ve been hard at work on a native version of Rust Console Edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S,” they shared in their April 2025 Dev Blog, teasing enhancements that could finally align the console experience with its PC counterpart.

Current players get a sweet deal with a free upgrade. “When the native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S version of Rust Console Edition launches, current players will receive a free upgrade,” Double Eleven confirmed in their Dev Blog. Your Standard, Deluxe, or Ultimate edition, complete with Rust Coins and cosmetics, carries over, looking “more crisp” on next-gen screens. The PS4 and Xbox One versions face their final wipe in October 2025, after which they’ll be unsupported and unavailable, making the jump a no-brainer. New players can pick from three editions—Standard, Deluxe, or Ultimate—with Deluxe and Ultimate offering early access from June 19, 2025, and exclusive skins, though pricing remains under wraps.

Cheating, a long-standing issue, is getting a firm response. “We are tracking cheaters at the moment and should have a system online for launch which will enable us to start automatically banning players,” Double Eleven stated in their March 2025 Dev Blog.
