Liam Hemsworth is Geralt of Rivia and the first trailer for The Witcher’s fourth season, out October 30, 2025, shows he’s got this. This penultimate chapter of the fantasy epic based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s books is darker and more fractured for our heroes.
Hemsworth’s Geralt is the anchor of the season. The trailer shows him against a nightwraith, a ghostly foe who brushes off steel. He counters with Witcher Signs, using Aard to push it back and Yrden to capture it, before smashing its glowing core and reducing the beast to dust. His gravelly voice, like Henry Cavill’s snarl, is both familiar and new, like a fresh Geralt with the same steel in his soul.

The story starts after season 3, when political betrayals and magical upheavals ravaged the Continent. Geralt, Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), and Ciri (Freya Allan) are separated, wandering a war torn land full of enemies. They’re apart, but the season’s central theme is they find each other. New allies emerge, described as “unexpected” and eager to join their quests. These found families, as Netflix’s synopsis says, could be the key to their survival and eventual reunion, setting up an emotional arc that will carry into season 5.

Laurence Fishburne joins the cast as Regis, a mysterious barber-surgeon with a shady past. First look photos show him with Hemsworth’s Geralt, so he’s going to be important. Regis, a fan favorite from the books and games, brings wisdom and mystery and will get into the season’s themes of loyalty and trust. Other returning characters include Jaskier (Joey Batey) who’s still got his wit and newbies Meng’er Zhang as Milva and Sharlto Copley as Leo Bonhart, a ruthless character from the books. The ensemble, which also includes Eamon Farren’s Cahir and Anna Shaffer’s Triss, is ready to go.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich calls this season a reboot. In interviews she says it’s an opportunity to mid-season refresh and deliver more spectacle while staying true to the source material. The eight episode season, with each episode around 50 minutes long, tries to balance action with character moments. Hissrich says it’s bittersweet and happy endings are not guaranteed in The Witcher world. This tension—between hope for reunion and the harsh reality of war—is what gives the season its beat.

Netflix has plans for The Witcher beyond this season. There’s an animated film and a live action prequel with Michelle Yeoh. CD Projekt Red’s upcoming fourth Witcher game which focuses on Ciri ties into the show. But season 4 is a key moment, bridging Cavill’s era with Hemsworth’s and setting up the end of the saga.
