Adobe has just launched a new AI-powered ‘Generative Expand’ feature for Photoshop Beta users. Put simply, this Firefly-based technology offers a new frictionless workflow designed to expand and resize images beyond their original aspect ratios by using the Crop tool.
Once the image is loaded, simply select the Crop tool and drag beyond the image’s original canvas to your desired aspect ratio. Next, click “Generate” to fill the empty space with AI generated content that seamlessly blends into the existing image. Not happy with the result? You can add a text prompt to give the AI an idea of exactly what is desired.

In May, we announced the integration of Firefly into the Photoshop (beta) app with Generative Fill, unlocking new creative potential for Photoshop customers, enabling users to add, expand, or remove content from images non-destructively, using simple text prompts. Since then, over 900 million images have been generated, and we’ve seen users delighted by a world beyond the lens where dimensions can be expanded magically, pixels can be transformed, and edits can be made faster and more intuitively than ever,” said Adobe.
