At first glance, this might appear to be just a normal lake that has been digitally manipulated to look like Coca-Cola, but in reality, you can actually swim in this body of water. That’s right, it’s located in Rio Grande del Norte, Brazil, and officially known as Lagoa da Araraquara. What gives it the caramel-like hue? Just from a high concentration of iodine and iron, along with the pigmentation the trees give off.

Yes, it’s completely safe to swim in the water, especially during the summer in Brazil (December – March), with some even attributing the combination of elements to good health. Unfortunately, there are no stores or public restrooms nearby, so you’ll have to bring your own supplies. Should you be in the area, getting there will take you around 5-hours hiking through a trail in the forest.

The Mata Estrela, a great Atlantic rainforest reserve located in Formosa Bay in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, nestles an interesting Lake with healing waters according to some people. The name of the Lake is Araraquara but soon it started being called Coca-Cola due to the colour of the water that is similar to the drink,” said a representative from Brazil’s tourism office.
