Yes, the house above was created with straw, compressed straw panels to be exact. According to researchers’ testing, “it was ‘more than strong enough’ to withstand hurricane force winds.” No word yet on if this design will be used in new home communities.
It used hydraulic jacks which pushed horizontally against the walls with a total force exceeding four tonnes, equivalent to the dynamic force of a hurricane.
