Technology giant Baidu is mostly known for its search engine, artificial intelligence platforms, and autonomous driving technology, but this week, the company unveiled Xi Rang. It’s officially China’s first metaverse platform and consists of a virtual world where participants can log in with their designated avatars and see, listen as well as interact with others using PCs, smartphones or wearables. Xi Rang means “Land of Hope” in Chinese and platform enables up to 100,000 participants to interact simultaneously in the same space. Baidu Chairman and Co-Founder, Robin Li, announced that the era of man-computer symbiosis had arrived, and that creators would usher in a Golden era of AI over the next 10 years, at its annual developer conference.
