BYD opened pre-orders for its Yangwang Altior after a global debut in Abu Dhabi, placing the four-seat electric sedan in the same conversation as long-established ultra-luxury models from Rolls-Royce. Measuring 5,600 millimeters in length with a 3,500-millimeter wheelbase, the car stretches farther than a standard Rolls-Royce Ghost and offers 1,209 millimeters of rear legroom along with a 532-liter boot. Coach doors open roughly 80 degrees up front and nearly 90 degrees at the rear, with umbrella storage built into the door panels for a more deliberate entrance.
The exterior features a grille made of 137 gemstone-cut pieces and a 24-karat gold symbol engraved in the elaborate writing of ancient oracle bones. The car also has a sophisticated two-tone paint job, which is topped off with a hand-painted coachline that runs practically the length of the body. Twenty-one inch polished disk wheels provide a sturdy stance, while the overall profile is a formal, three-box silhouette with a tall, commanding presence that correctly conveys its premium credentials. Yangwang based the front end design on an ancient Chinese cooking kettle known as the ding, then added some modern lighting elements that do a good job of flashing over the front of the car as you approach.

The rear seats in the Shanhe Dingyun special edition, a limited run of only 399 automobiles, are separated by a center console with champagne flutes and a row of controls. The front chairs are then “aviation-inspired,” reclining entirely, rising powered footrests, and even providing a mechanical massage with four small ball-shaped heads. There’s also a’relaxation mode,’ which lowers the privacy shades, dims the lights, and returns the chairs to a very flat posture. And don’t forget the materials: full-grain leather, real wool floor mats, natural wood trim, diamond-quilted upholstery, a touch of yellow Hetian jade on the air vents, and some gorgeous Suzhou embroidery on the seat cushions. Even the metal switches were carefully hammered out with repeated taps of a hammer to achieve the desired click and feel.

A twenty-one and a half-inch screen lowers down from the ceiling for watching videos or making video chats, and there are fridges in both the front and back of the car, with the rear one chilling and heating. Then there’s the 39-speaker Dynaudio sound system, which features small speakers that rise up and spin around when the car starts. If you’re one of the lucky few who get to purchase one of the Shanhe Dingyun, you can expect to see some exquisite gold speaker grilles, aramid fiber door inserts, cloud designs, and so on, as well as a projected price of 2,080,000 yuan (about $311,000) and a 300,000-yuan deposit. Working out the math, you end up with a five-seat plan to follow.

Inside are four separate electric motors, one for each wheel, all sat on BYD’s e4 platform and churning out torque at a rate of over 100 times per second, allowing the car to do all sorts of nifty things like tank turns and sideways moves, and even when a tyre blows at high speed, the system manages to maintain stability. In case you end up in the water, there is a ’emergency flotation mode’. They also utilize smart cameras to scan the road ahead and prepare for potential hazards. The suspension is called DiSus, and the second-generation Blade battery on a 1,000-volt setup is allegedly good for more than 1,000 kilometers before needing to be recharged. There’s also ‘flash charging,’ which gets the battery from 10 to 70% in roughly 5 minutes. The power data are not yet public, but you can be confident that this automobile outperforms its competition in terms of dynamic control.

Yangwang is promoting this as their premier executive sedan, mixing some wonderful traditional Chinese touches with cutting-edge electric technology that most of their competitors can’t match. If you’re lucky enough to receive one of the limited edition automobiles, deliveries will begin in the spring of 2027, though final price has yet to be established.
