Engineers from TU Wien in Austria have developed an incredible cable-driven dart robot that just won’t let you miss, and it even includes an automatic bullseye function. How do you use it? Simply throw a dart in the direction of the dartboard and it starts moving automatically to help you hit the desired field.
The system consists of cables that are wound in grooves around a regular tournament dartboard, which enable not only displacement, but also arbitrary rotational movement. The position of the steel dart is then measured by an infrared camera system, while an extended Kalman filter is used to track the flight trajectory and predict the impact point of the dart. Once all of that is calculated, the dartboard begins moving in such a way that the dart hits the desired position.
