CERN Large Hadron Collider Restart Record Energy
CERN’s Large Hadron Collider was restarted on April 22 after a three-year hiatus and it has already set a new record. That’s right, the particle accelerator achieved this feat due to the upgrades that were implemented during the planned shutdown, resulting in a new record energy of 6.8 TeV per beam after two pilot beams of protons were accelerated.

Jorg Wenninger, Head of the LHC Beam Operations Section, stated that this is just the start of a long commissioning phase of the Large Hadron Collider after the upgrades and the first collision is set to happen in within the next 8-weeks. The team hopes to ramp up the energy and intensity of the beams prior to delivering collisions at a record energy of 13.6 trillion electronvolts (13.6 TeV). Who knows? These findings may even help in the development of artificial neurons that can store electronic memories.

This third run of the LHC, called Run 3, will see the machine’s experiments collecting data from collisions not only at record energy but also in unparalleled numbers. The ATLAS and CMS experiments can each expect to receive more collisions during this physics run than in the two previous physics runs combined, while LHCb, which underwent a complete revamp during the shutdown, can hope to see its collision count increase by a factor of three,” said CERN.
