Citroen Ami Outdoor 2-Seat Electric EV
Citroen just opened the order books in Germany for the Ami Outdoor, a special edition of the boxy electric two-seater that has been scooting around European side streets since 2020. List price starts at €9,690 including tax, the rough equivalent of $11,000, before delivery and plates. A lease is offered at €65 a month over 36 months after a €1,350 payment up front, with a yearly allowance of 5,000 kilometers. Dutch pricing sits at €9,940, about €1,190 above a plain Ami. Belgium has matched the German figure for private buyers through the end of October. Wider European availability is expected after that first wave. In Germany the car is sold online only.

The hardware is nearly identical to that found on the normal Ami. A permanent magnet motor delivers around 6 kilowatts (8 horsepower) to the front wheels via a single gear. You have three buttons to select forward, neutral, or reverse; it’s that simple. Because of the light quadricycle classification, the top speed is limited to 45 km/h or 28 mph, placing it in the same regulatory category as a heavy moped. A 15-year-old with an AM licence can drive one in Germany. It is touted to have a 75-kilometer (47-mile) range on the WMTC cycle, thanks to a lithium-ion pack with a net rating of 5.4 kilowatt-hours and a gross rating of 6.3, installed discreetly beneath the floor. You can charge it in around four hours using a household outlet and the included three-meter wire, though fast charging is not an option.

The Ami Outdoor looks very similar to the normal one, although comically small. It measures 2,460 millimeters in length, which is somewhat more than eight feet. The mirrors increase its breadth to 1,541 millimeters. It stands 1,525 millimeters tall and has a 1,728-millimeter wheelbase. A three-point turn takes 7.2 meters, which is short enough to get around a conventional parking bay. Weighing in at 558 kilograms with a driver, it falls comfortably inside the 700 kilogram gross limit. There is a 63-liter cubby beside the passenger seat.

You will notice the exterior paint job. It has a distinctive Khaki Green paint that complements plain white 14-inch steel wheels and subtle black trim. The arches are given some color with outside decals going along the lower front doors and a logo put on the rear quarter panel. There’s some trim framing the front face and a small spoiler in the back. Seats are reupholstered, and the Migoo mascot, which has previously appeared on the C3 Outdoor and C3 Aircross Outdoor, is sewn onto the backrest. Citroën’s seat belts are a flashy Infra Rouge (bright red), with matching embroidery on the upholstery.

For the first time, a proper door Ami gets a manually operated roll-back fabric sunroof. The Buggy model has had one for a long time, but it has no doors and instead relies on a safety bar, leaving riders exposed to the weather. However, the Outdoor variant retains the doors and weather seal, allowing the cloth to slide back when the conditions are appropriate. Other previously optional features, such as gray bins on the dash, a bag hook, door nets, floor mats, a central cargo net, a phone cradle, and a 5.7-inch color screen in front of the driver for speed and charge, have become standard.
