Researchers at Arizona State University have invented a jetpack that may not lift you off the ground, but the 11-pound pack does shave 3-seconds from a 200-meter sprint. One early tester managed to slice 18-seconds from his mile time, cutting it down to 5:08. It’s currently being developer for military applications, so don’t be surprised if we see a weaponized version sooner than later. Continue reading for the full video demonstration.

“If you think of a Navy SEAL or an Army soldier that has to get in somewhere quick and do whatever they’ve gotta do, but maybe get out of there just as quickly, so these devices can really help soldiers to not only accomplish their goals and succeed in their missions, but potentially save human lives as well,” said ASU researcher Mr. Kerestes.
