Some homeowners prefer opulent mansions, while others don’t mind a small apartment in the city center, but very few opt for a 133-square-foot home. Christopher Smith and Merete Mueller chose the latter, building a 7-by-19-foot wooden house whose foundation is a two-axle trailer bed. The house is supplied with electricity from solar panels and features a composting toilet. One caveat, water is trucked in by the jug, since the land has no well yet. There’s also a two-burner alcohol stove for the kitchen, a propane-fueled stove to provide heat, and a sun-heated camp-style shower for bathing.
