LEGO Death Star

LEGOLAND California has embraced the dark side with a gigantic 1,900-pound (862-kilogram) Death Star model made from over 500,000 bricks. Measuring 13-feet (3.9-meters) high and 8-feet (2.4-meters) wide, it’s currently the largest model in the themed Miniland exhibit. A forklift and a crew of helmeted workers were required to get Darth Vader’s home, based on the one seen in “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope”, in space into position. During the official unveiling, there was also a costume contest, Jedi trivia and LEGO building challenges. The 500,000 piece LEGO Death Star is in good company, as it joins models of a Jawa sandcrawler, the Battle of Naboo, Uncle Owen’s Moisture Farm on Tatooine and even a life-size Darth Maul, at the park.
