DEEP Robotics DR02 Humanoid Robot Traffic Officer
Early October brought steady rain across Hangzhou, packing scenic spots, commercial areas, and event venues with visitors and vehicles that strained local traffic crews. Against that backdrop DEEP Robotics sent a batch of its DR02 humanoid robots into Xihu District for practical trials at busy intersections and tourist sites. Units took positions on Zheda Road and West Wenyi Road in Lingyin Subdistrict, where they handled traffic direction, order maintenance, and basic consultation while others worked the heavier visitor flows at Xixi National Wetland Park.

Standing at approximately 175 centimeters and weighing 65 kilos, the DR02 provides adequate weather protection thanks to an IP66 classification that seals it against dust and water jets. It can withstand temperatures ranging from -20 to 55 degrees Celsius, has a walking speed of 1.5 meters per second, and can sprint quicker. Not to mention a handy 25-centimetre stair rise and a 20-degree slope, I’d say it can manage itself around the premises. It’s powered by onboard sensors and a complex system that compensates for those sensors with wide angle cameras, depth cameras, and LiDAR. The computing system itself is extremely powerful; with 275 trillion operations per second, it can walk about itself, evade people and cars, change its position on the go, and even wave an arm around like a real traffic cop.

DEEP Robotics DR02 Humanoid Robot Traffic Officer
The company tested the DR02 in the rain and demonstrated it telling a bike rider to go back behind the stop line, stating when a green light has turned on, and so on. One of the cool things about this is that it can detect specific issues such as individuals riding without helmets, laden bikes, and pedestrians crossing stop lines. When it detects these things, it will essentially remind the user verbally and with a few motions rather than issuing a ticket. Spotting and addressing these minor flaws allows the robot to focus on more critical tasks, such as asking visitors and residents for directions in several languages.

It’s amazing to witness the DR02 in action in regions where it becomes really busy. According to one engineer, delegating repetitive advising work to the machine allows humans to focus on more vital activities such as accident investigation and enforcement. DEEP Robotics in Hangzhou stated that they used this initiative to test their DR02, determining how effectively it could read the environment, manage its movements, and interact with people before releasing it to the general public.
