Chicago-based photographer Reuben Wu specializes in using drones to illuminate natural landscape photos, and his latest project, Light Storm, follows up on his previous projects. For this set, he visited rocky landscapes in Utah and New Mexico, while using precision piloted drones to create halo lighting of sorts. Whether it be geometric shapes or just the lighting itself, the drones serve many purposes to create a mood.
His setup consists of a 150-megapixel Phase One XT camera, custom-designed LEDs, a tripod, and other spot lighting. Do you fancy the light / dark wallpapers in macOS Big Sur or iOS 14.2? Reuben Wu is the photographer behind those images.

Instead of the old photographers’ adage of waiting for the right moment, I’m literally creating it from my position behind the camera. It also allows me to have more creative ownership over a photograph of a landscape,” said Wu to Colossal.
