Eden-NX2 appeared on October 29 as a pre-release fork of the Eden emulator, created by a developer known as Takoroka and hosted on the Eden project’s own git server. It adds experimental support for Nintendo Switch 2 software on Windows machines, and early tests already show Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza starting up and moving through their opening sections.
Users load a dumped game by pointing the program at the exefs\main file inside the game folder. The Windows build needs a 64-bit copy of Windows 10 or 11, a Vulkan-capable graphics card with at least 8 GB of video memory, and 16 GB of system RAM. Source code is available for anyone interested in adapting it to other systems, though the developer notes that testing has been limited to Windows and that virtual environments tend to produce unreliable results.

Performance is inconsistent. Mario Kart World can load and play in brief spurts, but continuous stutters, wildly inconsistent pace, and the occasional graphic issue will simply halt you in the middle of the game. certain internet clips claim it was running at around 60 frames per second, with only the occasional break when it had to recompile a shader, but others report it’s actually rather slow and certain geometry is simply missing. Takoroka is open about the fact that some of the meshes in the game are just disappearing because the shaders have not yet been programmed, resulting in some fairly rough visuals. This is a “experimental Switch 2 integration for Eden” that comes with a strong warning about how many issues still need to be resolved.

It appeared about a week after the first public Switch 2 jailbreak, which is known as ns2jb. Security researcher Sammy Hajhamid (also known as pepsipu online) demonstrated the exploit on firmware 23.0.1 around October 22, and it appears to have a hole in SmileBASIC 4 that allows the hacker to gain access. It only works as long as you don’t reboot the device. Hajhamid utilized an AI writing assistance named Codex to help him crack it, and he demonstrated the results by incorporating some custom characters into Mario Kart World. It’s been 16 months since the Switch 2 was released in June 2025, and folks have been excitedly waiting for a means to jailbreak it. Eden-NX2 is a distinct piece of software that does not include any games or firmware; you must source those yourself.

Eden has its origins in the old Switch emulation stuff, which continued even after Yuzu was sued by Nintendo in 2024. The mainline Eden releases have yet to support the Switch 2, thus this is a bit of a side project, a community branch that focuses just on the new hardware. Other people have started working with the same codebase, with a project called Eglantine that aims to broaden compatibility and appears to run Mario Kart World more smoothly. The compatibility lists are short, shader support is rudimentary, and, to be honest, we have no idea how stable this thing will be over time. Right now, it’s only a proof-of-concept, as it’s essentially a Switch 2 game running on your PC, but with a lot of missing components and frequent crashes.
