LEGO Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers are not cheap, and they often cost enough to make you think twice before purchasing a replacement or upgrade. So what if you could have it both ways? Builder Brux thought so too and decided to build one out of LEGO bricks, complete with all the bells and whistles, including working buttons, joysticks, and full console compatibility.

Every visible component on the outside is from Brux’s own LEGO collection, while the ergonomic shape is a straight duplicate of the official design, created piece by piece from a number of bricks into a very familiar handheld shape. A Waveshare ESP32-S3-Zero development board, the brain of the operation, sits beneath all of the color and flair. This little microcontroller effectively converts the physical inputs into a signal that the Switch can comprehend, essentially transforming the entire thing into a USB HID device that works precisely like the real stuff.

Brux went to great lengths to ensure that the buttons function properly, as conventional push buttons handle the A, B, X, Y cluster, the D-pad, Home, and Capture without fail. Two analog joysticks aren’t just tossed in there; they have bespoke circuit boards that connect potentiometers, resulting in smooth movement that registers flawlessly in games. However, shoulder buttons vary in that they have both push switches and potentiometers for that all-important analog trigger pull, which is essential for game precision.

Brux did an excellent job of concealing all of the electronics within the LEGO housing; all of the wires are ingeniously routed through the brick construction without interfering with the clean façade. It’s all kept simple with a USB connection for power and connectivity, and everything works seamlessly on the Nintendo Switch or a PC. If you want to try your hand at making your own version, the design files are still available on Mecabricks, where you can follow a step-by-step guide to put it all together.

The real star of the show is how well it actually works, as inputs travel through smoothly, allowing you to simply jump in and play with little fuss or difference from an official unit. The controller handles gaming just as well, demonstrating that the overall concept is more than just a novelty piece of gear.
