Elon Musk’s SpaceX announced today that it plans to launch the first commercial astronaut mission to orbit earth. Falcon 9’s launch of Inspiration4 from historic Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida is set for no later than Q4 2021. Billionaire Jared Isaacman, founder and CEO of Shift4 Payments, is planning to bring three others alongside him aboard Dragon on this historic journey to space. Each member of the Inspiration4 crew will receive commercial astronaut training by SpaceX on the Falcon 9 launch vehicle / Dragon spacecraft, orbital mechanics, operating in microgravity, zero gravity, and other forms of stress testing. They’ll thoroughly be briefed on emergency preparedness training, spacesuit / spacecraft ingress and egress exercises, as well as partial and full mission simulations.
