Elon Musk Hyperloop How it Works
Several Hyperloop projects are under construction, with one test site near Las Vegas that consists of a 1,640 foot-long metal tube. This is where Virgin Hyperloop is developing technology for passenger pods that will one day soon transport passengers through air-free vacuum tunnels using magnetic levitation, enabling them to travel between New York and Washington in a mere 30-minutes at speeds of up to 760 mph. Each pod would seat 28-passengers and can be configured for either short or longer journeys. The Virgin Hyperloop system is capable of transporting thousands of passengers per hour thanks to high throughput that is achieved by convoying, where vehicles are able to travel behind one another in the tube within milliseconds, controlled by proprietary machine intelligence software.

Designing a new mode of transportation from scratch is both an opportunity and a responsibility. Hyperloop technology – and what it enables – is paradigm-shifting. It follows that the passenger experience should be nothing short of extraordinary,” said Sara Luchian, Virgin Hyperloop’s Director of Passenger Experience and one of the first people to ride the hyperloop in November.
