Even Realities G2 Smartglasses
Ray-Ban Meta glasses contain cameras and speakers that project sounds directly into your ears. Even Realities takes a different approach. Their new G2 smartglasses, which go on sale today for $599, do not have any of these extras. There is no camera, thus no awkward recordings. There are no speakers, so talks remain private. Instead, a vivid green display appears in front of one eye, bringing information straight into your vision without turning your face into a billboard.

When you put them on, they feel like quality eyewear first and foremost, followed by technology. Frames come in panto or rectangular shapes and in gray, brown, or green. Titanium temples with magnesium fronts weigh only 36 grams, less than the original G1’s 44 grams. The thickness and width of the temples decreased by 53% and 20%, respectively. End pieces and frames shrunk by 15% overall. Adjustable nose cushions and a universal bridge offer a tight fit, while the IP67 rating repels rain and dust. Clip-on sunglasses attach for brighter days. Prescription lenses are precisely etched to fit your exact specifications, ranging from -12 to +12 diopters.

The battery lasts more than two days on a single charge, and the case can carry seven more complete recharges. Connect to your phone using Bluetooth 5.2, and the Even Realities app will handle setup and tweaking. Four microphones detect vocal commands—”Hey Even” activates the assistant, which now responds three times faster and remembers previous questions.

Even refers to the display as HAO 2.0—mini micro-LED projectors that are 40% smaller than previously, as well as waveguides and multi-layer lenses that are 30% thinner in the center. The end result is a 75% wider viewing area, 50% more resolution, and up to 1200 nits of green monochrome brightness. The resolution is 640 by 350 pixels, with a field of vision of 27.5 degrees and a refresh rate of 60 Hz. Passthrough transparency is 98%, thus the real world is viewable even when no content is presented.

Hands-on testers notice the upgrade immediately. The text is sharp, with no blurring or wobbling during movement. Edges are consistent due to graded grating in waveguides. The auto-brightness feature adjusts on the go. Early samples seem more comfortable, with no tight squeezes that caused rashes like the G1.Core features are designed to meet everyday demands. Notifications come discreetly, with the most critical ones displayed first.

Navigation overlays directions on your view with a geomagnetic sensor, eliminating the need to pull out your phone. Translate provides real-time subtitles in 31 different languages during chats. Dashboard widgets display health statistics, headlines, or customized information at a glance. When you speak, to-do lists with due dates show; mark items off by tapping the frame or ring.

A teleprompter scrolls your speech notes alongside your delivery without breaking eye contact; for example, Palmer Luckey used the G1 for his whole TED lecture. The new Conversate mode is really cool; it listens in on your discussions and then offers recommendations, such as defining words, looking up people’s public information, discreetly answering queries in the background, or even suggesting follow-up questions to keep the conversation continuing. Subtitles appear on the fly, which is wonderful, and meetings are summarized afterward. However, the audio is transcribed rather than the entire discussion being captured.

You control everything with finger taps on the arm modules, but the G2 truly shines when connected with the Even R1 smart ring, which is a game changer for only $249. It also looks quite nice; the stainless steel with zirconia ceramic coating feels like a million bucks on your finger. To access menus, simply tap, slide, or press; it’s far more natural than trying to tap the frame itself. And the TriSync technology? It easily connects your ring, glasses, and phone.
