Set for release in theaters on April 28, 2023, the BlackBerry movie shows the meteoric rise and fall of the world’s first smartphone. It stars Jay Baruchel (Mike Lazaridis), Glenn Howerton (Jim Balsillie), Rich Sommer (Paul Stannos), Michael Ironside (Charles Purdy), Michelle Giroux (Dara Frankel), SungWon Cho (Ritchie Cheung), Saul Rubinek (John Woodman), and Cary Elwes (Carl Yankowski).
Mike Lazaridis, a Canadian businessman, founded BlackBerry, which created and manufactured the BlackBerry wireless handheld device. It all started after Research In Motion (RIM) developed barcode technology for film and th profits from that venture were poured directly into wireless data transmission research. This lead to the introduction of the BlackBerry wireless mobile device in 1999, and its more recognizable version three years later. For those in Canada, BlackBerry will be released in theaters on May 12, 2023.
