First Flying Electric Ferry Service US Candela P-12
It’s official, the first flying electric ferry service in the US has begun operations on Lake Tahoe using the Candela P-12. Local company FlyTahoe will feature a 30-minute cross-lake service that essentially cuts the travel time in half compared to the daily 20,000 car trips along the same route.

As for the P-12 watercraft, it’s touted as world’s first electric hydrofoil ferry. This 30-seat vessel was designed to accommodate both skis as well as bikes, and utilizes hydrofoil technology, along with computer-guided underwater wings, to glide above the water’s surface at high speeds, unaffected by rough conditions. A computer-controlled Flight Controller uses sensors and software to balance the craft above the waves and amidst the winds to aid those who get motion sickness, as it adjusts the foil’s angle of attack 100 times per second to provide a smooth ride at speeds of up to 30mph.

It basically works like a jet fighter, which is constantly balanced using ailerons. The principle of the P-12 is the same, except our wings fly in water instead of air,” said Gustav Hasselskog, CEO and Founder of Swedish tech company Candela.
