Let’s face it, many original Apple Watch units from 2015 are just sitting collecting dust, especially since support for them stopped in September 2020. Jack Spiggle of NanoRobotGeek decided to turn one of them into a fully-functional mechanical Apple Watch, just without the smart features.
This particular donor Apple Watch functioned just fine before the disassembly, aside from its degraded battery. Two things that could not be removed were the digital crown and side button, both of which were repurposed specifically for the mechanical watch mod. Spiggle did have to shell out extra for some tools to ensure everything could be put together properly because it uses the original Apple Watch stem. However, the custom-machined rotor engraved with the Apple logo and laser-cut watch face made all the extra work worth it.
