Created by Orbital ATK, the XM25 Counter Defilade Engagement System is a shoulder-fired rifle equipped with a built-in ‘target acquisition and fire control system’, enabling soldiers with basic shooting skills to operate the weapon. What sets it apart from other rifles is its ability to use bullets that are programmed to explode after having traveled a set distance, up to 2300-feet away. This allows enemies to be targeted regardless of their hiding place. The gunsight uses a laser rangefinder and smart software to determine the exact distance to the target, while the 25-millimetre round contains a chip that receives a radio signal from it to pinpoint their location.
