Gravity Industries held the world’s first jet suit race in Dubai on February 28. Pilots were equipped with the company’s jet suits, each one powered by seven turbine engine generating a combined 1,500-horsepower and using the same kind of fuel as the Emirates’ Airbus A380.
The eight pilots zipped around a 0.6-mile course that required them to maneuver between 12 massive inflatable obstacles placed in the water. There were a total of four heats of 90-second races, and only the top pilots made the final round. Navigating the flight path was done by altering the direction of their arms while traveling at speeds of up to 85 miles per hour.
