Gravity Industries’ jet suit is a novel way to get around, but what if it could be used as a weapon in the military? A company employee, or possibly even founder Richard Browning, wanted to find out, so they equipped one of them with a head-tracking shoulder turret that looks to be something straight from an Iron Man movie.
For those who have never seen the jet suit, it’s powered by five micro-gas turbines – two on each arm and one on the back – that produce a combined 1,036 hp, with the turbines capable of achieving 120,000 rpm. The jets and powerpack weigh in at around 27 kilograms (60 pounds) and has a maximum flight time of 10 minutes, with a current top speed record of 85 mph. It can reportedly reach altitudes of 2,000 feet, although during normal use, it would be flown at only 10-13 feet above the ground.
