Rising up from the 9/11 Ground Zero World Trade Center site will be the world’s greenest skyscraper complex. In addition to recycling rain water, these structures will feature sun-reactive dimming lights, hydrogen fuel cells for power generation, using the Hudson River to cool the WTC Transportation Hub, and building with 75 percent post-industrial recycled content. Visitors to both the WTC buildings and the 9/11 Memorial will first pass through airport-style metal detectors and X-ray machines and have every bag, briefcase, and delivered parcel screened. Museum patrons won’t even be allowed into the central plaza without passing security.
