Holographic Christmas Tree
NASA had Carl Sagan narrate the JWST Christmas launch trailer last year, and inventor Sean Hodgins decided to celebrate by creating something a bit more high-tech. This holographic Christmas tree is more than meets the eye, as it combines a simple metal frame with a Raspberry Pi-powered LED persistence of vision system.

How does it work? The Raspberry Pi compute module runs the LED strip that spins to generate images such as a Christmas tree. However, the animations are more complex than you think, as they require you to gather a folder of still images, which then produce pixelated images that appear to be move when the tree’s magnet up top starts spinning the frame. Unfortunately, you can’t hang a Nintendo Switch ornament on this Christmas tree.
